Why is this here?

I want a log of what I (maybe in a few days there will be a "we") did to start an atheist/freethinker/agnostic/skeptic/humanist/did-I-forget-something group in a town with a greater population of about 130,000 people (Lafayette, Louisiana). Hopefully, I'll be able to compile resources and a point-of-reference for people who will be starting groups like these in the future.

What I've done so far

Create a meetup.com account

This was probably the easiest thing in the world to do. I've got 10 people on this, picking up 1 extra from reddit.com who I just referred there. It's got the basics needed as far as web presence and just promoting a web presence in general.

Wasn't a bad move, just not awesome at getting more people to show up. What it did do is get me a contact with someone in Denver who started an atheist group there that's taken off...though Denver is orders of magnitude bigger than Lafayette, it is going to be good to have someone pose questions towards.
